CONTEST - REHABILITATION
The international multidisciplinary architecture competition organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Cultural Affairs of Ville de Tunisie, aimed at the requalification of the Acropolis of Byrsa and the rehabilitation of the National Museum of Carthage.
The site reads like a fragment to be reintegrated into the city and its landscape, both in its physical and social, intellectual and sensitive connections; a fragment intended to bring revealed Carthage closer to fantasized Carthage and lived Carthage; an element to be recomposed, today set back from the city although it overlooks it, to make it attractive, coherent, comfortable, and capable of multiple uses.
One of the ambitions of the project is to re-establish the link between the museum and the archaeological site, itself formerly treated as an open-air museum. By creating cross-references from one to the other, but above all by placing the current monumental ensemble - cathedral and school of the missionaries of Africa (White Fathers, current museum) - in the continuity of the Punic, Roman and Christian acropolises which succeeded each other in its location.
