TOURIST CENTER OF BALYUN NATIONAL FOREST PARK, LISHUI, CHINA

STUDY  OF  PRE-FEASIBILITY

Connection with nature: "The mountain above the clouds »

Symbiosis between mountain peaks and clouds moving.

The tourist center is inspired by the surrounding mountains and its natural setting. The building is composed of three volumes echoing the three mountains of its landscape. The three spaces host distinct attraction areas: an exhibition room, a projection room and environmental science spaces. The mountain is the gateway to the Lishui Baiyun National Forest Park which welcomes visitors for their discovery.

Inside the mountain (building), a series of individual modules are scattered throughout the vast interior space. The irregularly shaped pods with rounded edges stand out from the roof structure creating fluid and porous spaces offering a unique experience of discovery, as if one were in the park. Inside the program elements and educational activities are housed in capsules. As visitors ascend, the impressive curves of the wooden structure are revealed.

When the visitor reaches the last level inside the mountain, he walks on the cloud. The cloud walkway winds between the peaks of the mountain construction and extends over the hill that delimits the pond. Travelers walking along the path observe and discover nature through an ever-renewed perspective. Each curve defines a different view of the city and the enchanting mountain landscapes. The building is in symbiosis with the site visually, spatially and physically. At the end of their walk along the cloud, visitors are invited to enjoy the local flavors of nature while enjoying refreshments or a meal at the rooftop restaurant.
