LIFE IN THE WOODS

SHELTERS IN NATURE

Client: Municipality of La Minerve

La Minerve , QC . Canada

2009

65 m2 / 700 ft2

The objective of the project is to offer a typology of autonomous dwellings offering the possibility of a way of life in harmony with nature.

The conceptual approach is mainly inspired by the character of the place and favors the adoption of integration strategies and sustainable construction. The shape of the built environment offers maximum integration into nature and the place by reducing the visual impact on the natural environment.

The reduction in the dimensions of buildings aims to reduce their footprint and to counterbalance the important effect of the dimensions of the houses on the use of resources.

High-efficiency, EPA-certified wood stoves provide heating and each unit is equipped with a compost toilet. The shelters are not equipped with running water or electricity. The selection of local resources such as wood, ensures a sustainable and ecological choice for the main building system and for finishing coatings, inside and out.
