DISCOVERY CENTER

MONT-TREMBLANT NATIONAL PARK

Client: Sépaq

Lac Monroe QC . Canada

2013

600 m2 / 6,450 ft2

The desire to redefine the image and identity of the “reception hut” translates into a harmonious composition of spaces allowing the integration of architecture as a learning space. Imbued with the very essence of the park, the center becomes the common thread that leads visitors on an experience of discovery and celebration of nature.

The shape of the building was sculpted by the natural and climatic attributes of the site. In addition, the choice of wood as the main material reinterprets the richness of textures and colors of the place and expresses nature in all its exuberance.

A major challenge was to limit the impact of the building in its natural environment, from its location to its footprint. Combining the application of bioclimatic design strategies, the choice of eco-responsible materials and the use of innovative technologies, such as hydrothermal energy, the project has become a real model of sustainable building showing an energy saving of 59%.
