WOODEN TOWER FROM QUEBEC TO SHANGHAI
PRE-FEASIBILITY STUDY
Client: MRIF
The MRIF Ministère des relations internationales et de la Francophonie wishes to explore ways of developing wood from Quebec on the booming Chinese construction market.
The construction project of a Quebec wooden tower in Shanghai was initiated by the director of the representations of Quebec in China, with the aim of promoting in an exemplary fashion Quebec know-how in the construction of modern wooden structures and environmentally efficient.
The study entrusted to Smith Vigeant Architects aims to propose a flagship building project, an exceptional showcase for wood products and green construction technologies. The building, designed according to the highest standards of ecological performance, will showcase Quebec's know-how and resources. The study aims to prefigure the architectural project by defining all the programmatic, economic, financial and technical parameters. These elements then serve as a basis for the operational development of the project.
The 18-storey wooden tower will provide commercial space, cultural and artistic performance spaces, catering, offices and housing. The whole structure is designed in wood. The base of the tower is a vast modular, scalable and multifunctional space distinguished by the original quality of its interactions with the external environment. The building will aim to mark the urban space by its accessibility, its attractiveness and its appeal to experience.
