Facing dilapidated sports facilities, the College Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes was in dire need of renewal. The addition of a new sports pavilion was the first phase of a series of interventions intended to improve the facilities and renew the identity of the College.
The new building that houses the gymnasium was designed to stimulate students in their sporting activities by means of large openings letting in abundant natural light and offering views of the adjacent woodland.
At the far end, a huge angled wooden platform leans against the building to form a climbing wall. In addition, two new multipurpose rooms for dance and training are added to the existing program.
The selection of materials was based on the appearance of natural finishes, such as wood as exterior and interior siding. Several materials were also recycled and recovered during the demolition (masonry, insulation, gravel, doors, windows, etc.) to reduce construction costs.
