ST-JOSEPH SCHOOL

EXPANSION AND RESTORATION

Client: École St-Joseph Inc.

Montreal, QC. Canada

2013

760 m2 / 2,500 ft2

For the École St-Joseph project, the firm was responsible for developing various expansion scenarios following the purchase of the neighboring building, the Henriette-Moreau Lionais house, a significant architectural witness to the built heritage of Montreal.

The solution adopted for the revitalization of the place was that of the restructuring of the interior of the island. Access and more fluid circulation appear thanks to an opening of the site to the surrounding streets and a new passage between the buildings.

The architectural treatment chosen for the new volumes is intended to be a continuation of the modernist character of the school and the traditional character of the house. The existing interior spaces, redeveloped for the library and media library, constitute, for their part, a new inspiring framework for teaching and a prestigious image for the institution.

The characteristics surrounding this project caused the need to carry out specific and complex studies, since they were subject to several heritage, regulatory and construction requirements.
