Saint-Noël-Chabanel school is one of the largest primary schools in the CSDM. It is made up of two opposite pavilions separated by 25th avenue. The Discovery Pavilion, a building built in 1958, is made up of two extensions made in 2015.
The project consisted of the complete repair of the original building including the redevelopment and renovation of the gymnasium, the repair of the roof of the gymnasium, the rear facade and the replacement of the windows.
A major renovation of the building envelope and the interior has been designed by prioritizing the integration of natural light, the durability of the materials, the comfort and well-being of the students and quality design.
A sunshine study led to the addition of curtain walls on the east-west face thus optimizing natural light without affecting the heat factor.
The visual atmosphere has been taken care of to work on the coherence of the spaces, offer conviviality and comfort and create an architectural signature favorable to the feeling of belonging.
The visual ambiance was enhanced by colorful acoustic panels evoking clouds with breakthroughs of the sun. The wall ceramic reflects the water of the waves, this marine theme has been taken up by the creation of openings in the form of portholes.
The diamond pattern of the brick cladding serves as a target for ball games while its universal and colorful appearance evokes the cultural diversity of the neighborhood. The gymnasium now acts within the school complex as a point of reference, a playful and convivial space of architectural quality dedicated to gathering.
A project which shows us that a partial renovation can enhance the coherence and the architectural atmosphere of an entire school.
