HERITAGE RESTORATION

Le Mille Carré Doré, a privileged place of residence of the English bourgeoisie at the end of the 19th century, is one of the areas with the richest historical heritage in Montreal. Several historic buildings have survived the test of time and today bear witness to the splendor of the time. Among them is the John L. Morris Residence, a Victorian house of Scottish red sandstone, erected in 1896.

The residence, which became uninhabitable after years of vacancy, was purchased in the early 2000s by Acadia Apartments Inc.

Smith Vigeant Architects supervised the entire renovation project, which was done with the greatest respect for the heritage of the house. The interior and exterior glazing and woodwork have been restored in collaboration with specialized craftsmen.

The addition of a solarium at the back of the house was designed in harmony with the existing structure. SVA also played the role of facilitator of realization, by managing the procedures of construction and transformation permits, very complex because framed by several regulations of protection of the historical and cultural heritage.
