Founded in 1992 by Daniel Smith and Stéphan Vigeant, Smith Vigeant Architectes is now led by its two founders alongside a dynamic team of professionals whose talent and expertise come from all corners of the world.
At Smith Vigeant Architectes, we cultivate an architectural practice that goes beyond the traditional boundaries of the profession, driven by a steadfast commitment to sustainability, innovation, and collaboration.
Our team brings together architects, LEED-accredited professionals, environmental and interior designers, and skilled technologists, combining diverse expertise to deliver projects of exceptional quality. This multidisciplinary approach—both rigorous and forward-thinking—allows us to engage in a wide range of projects with precision and creativity.
Every project is developed using the BIM–Integrated Design Process (IDP), ensuring seamless coordination and optimized results from concept to completion. Our team works primarily with Revit, leveraging its advanced capabilities to produce designs that are as efficient as they are inspiring.
Daniel Smith
Senior Partner at the firm and a LEED-certified professional. He is dedicated to shaping an architectural practice that pushes the traditional boundaries of design, transforming technical challenges into opportunities for innovation. Having recognized the challenges of sustainable development early on, he is among the pioneers in sustainable and eco-responsible architecture. Passionate about integrating wood into construction, he is regularly invited by local and international organizations that promote its use, such as Cécobois and Wood Rise. He is also an active member of the Canada Green Building Council (CGBC). His penchant for analysis and the pursuit of innovative solutions allows him to excel in complex projects requiring in-depth and rigorous pre-conceptual studies. He is recognized for his ability to mobilize, coordinate, and unite all project stakeholders within a resolutely clear and positive dynamic. A diplomat and teacher at heart, he is particularly effective in projects involving mediation and negotiation with various project stakeholders.

Stéphan Vigeant
As the firm’s senior associate architect and a LEED-certified professional, Stéphan Vigeant demonstrates that an architect’s role is not limited to just a few stages of the project. He ensures rigorous oversight from the outset, based on the initial objectives, and then works to unlock the project’s full potential in the search for architectural solutions. He also serves on the board of directors of Bâtiment Durbale Québec and the U.S. Green Building Council. Rigorous and committed to excellence, he remains faithful to freehand drawing and traditional methods while actively promoting the latest tools such as BIM, PCI, and sustainable approaches. His years of experience as a principal/partner and project manager have enabled him to complete large-scale projects distinguished by the originality of their solutions, whether implemented within a traditional framework or on an accelerated timeline.
