The Allez Up climbing centre takes root in Mile End, rising to the character of the neighborhood.
Amid Italian cafés, renowned restaurants, and art galleries, Allez Up captivates both seasoned athletes and casual climbers with a striking experience.
The goal was to create an inviting atmosphere while preserving the neighborhood’s underground spirit. Housed in a former window manufacturing plant, the first challenge was to enhance this deeply industrial site and transform it into a welcoming space. In collaboration with climbing wall specialists Délire, the design carefully defined distinct zones within the vast rectangular volume while maintaining overall coherence. The existing mezzanine was renovated to maximize space, adding storage rooms and offices, and offering an upper-level view onto the 5-meter-high bouldering walls.
The reception counter, a bold quadrilateral element, unfolds to define the space before transforming into a café and later an observation zone. Its birch wood slat cladding recalls the materiality of the climbing walls. Traces of the former factory—such as the exposed concrete block wall and existing steel joists—were preserved and painted in white and grey to create a refined aesthetic. This industrial backdrop is harmonized by the climbing walls that line the double-height space.
