The Totem office building project places the integration of the building within the site and landscape of Antananarivo at the heart of its mission, embracing sustainable development, innovation, and well-being.

A Green Axis as Spatial Framework

The Totem project is structured around a green axis that connects the existing and future buildings on the site: the “green flow” of Malagasy arts. This axis extends indoors through a dynamic interplay of interior and exterior spaces, unfolding across all levels to create a unique place for both formal and informal exchanges and collaboration. The green flow is punctuated with symbols of Malagasy totems. The building is designed to adapt over time to various uses and modes of occupation by its users.

Climatic Architecture and Intelligent Envelope

An interplay of solids and voids, shade and light, is achieved through the design of a double-skin façade based on a simple yet effective construction system. The regular grid of the double skin adapts to different orientations to shield occupants from strong sunlight, capture solar rays, and allow natural ventilation of interior spaces. It also supports photovoltaic panels, forming a pergola over the rooftop garden overlooking the city of Antananarivo. This garden roof is innovative in both form and function, integrating energy-saving and water-conservation systems within a space dedicated to leisure and relaxation.
