Located in a residential neighborhood, the project consists of redeveloping certain areas of the Hubert-Reeves Pavilion and adding a new two-storey building.
The expansion accommodates eight classrooms, one multipurpose room, two kindergarten spaces, a library, a gymnasium, and all related service areas. Designed with a sense of openness and dynamism, the new addition creates welcoming and fluid connections with the existing structure. Two distinct volumes define the new functions: to the west, the classrooms and versatile auxiliary spaces; to the east, the gymnasium and library volumes.

To enhance the relationship between indoor and outdoor spaces and to promote functional fluidity, the expansion rethinks spatial interactions. The ground floor of the new wing is highly open, featuring multipurpose rooms that connect directly to the inner courtyard. The agora, which links the existing building to the extension, also opens directly onto the smaller courtyard, creating multifunctional spaces for learning and community use.

The gymnasium opens directly onto the main courtyard through large glazed façades that foster visual and social interaction. These design choices make the project accessible, active, and inclusive, turning it into a vibrant place of gathering.

SVA integrated wood construction throughout the new building. To balance cost efficiency with a commitment to sustainable materials, a hybrid structural system—combining light wood framing and mass timber—was chosen. Specific areas were carefully selected to highlight the beauty of glued-laminated timber structures, notably in the link between the existing building and the extension (the agora), as well as in the new gymnasium. The remainder of the structure uses a more conventional system of load-bearing walls and joists. Built-in furniture and certain interior finishes also feature wood, reinforcing the warm and natural atmosphere of the school.

The new construction redefines the urban block at the intersection of Millen Avenue and Sauriol East Street. In dialogue with the church and presbytery of Sainte-Rita Parish, the project creates a community presence along Sauriol Street. The new building, extending slightly beyond the Hubert-Reeves Pavilion, maintains the façade alignment of neighboring buildings and strengthens the connection with the Julie-Payette Pavilion, located to the northeast on Durham Street.
