Uganda Kazoza Project
Location
Nakivale Refugee Camp, Uganda
The Kazoza Uganda Project is a humanitarian initiative born from the collaboration between Architects Without Borders and Smith Vigeant Architectes. This partnership provided a unique opportunity to design and build a warm and vibrant environment, fostering exchange and learning for both students and visitors.
At the heart of the project lies a dormitory complex conceived not only to meet immediate needs but also to serve as a replicable model. Modular and adaptable, this prototype can be expanded and reproduced elsewhere on the site to support future growth and evolving needs.
Guided by a spirit of solidarity and sustainability, the project promotes simple, resilient architecture that empowers the local community — demonstrating how architecture can serve as a true driver of social transformation in rural, low-resource environments.
