Located on the banks of the Lachine Canal in the former Redpath Sugar silos, the Allez-Up climbing centre is set at the heart of the revitalization project of Montréal’s Southwest district.
Inclined, vertical, or overhanging, the climbing wall is the central element of the project. Vast windows punctuate the surfaces, allowing natural light to flood the building while revealing the colorful climbing walls within—the true heart of the facility, framed by its metallic shell.
The project also included the challenge of proposing a massing adapted to the duality of urban scales, taking into account both the commercial and residential surroundings. In addition, the proposed volumes had to address two major circulation axes, with specific issues related to access and safety.
Once completed, the transitional secondary school will include a sports hub, library, cafeteria, art classrooms, science laboratories, and eighteen (18) standard classrooms. Ultimately, it will be converted into a neighborhood elementary school to meet the projected growth in the student population.
