Food Chain of the Montreal Science Centre
Lieu
Montreal, QC
Client
Old Port of Montréal Corporation
Area
560 m2 / 6 028 ft2
Year
2010
This project stemmed from the Montréal Old Port Corporation’s desire to completely redevelop the food court of the Montréal Science Centre, making it more attractive and functional.
The previous space lacked dynamism and offered no visual or thematic connection to the Science Centre.
The design concept was that of a “laboratory”: functional, experimental, aesthetic, and impeccably clean. It relied strongly on a bi-chromatic theme combining white and red:
White, symbolizing positivity and purity, stimulating and luminous.
Red, the emblematic color of the Science Centre, energizing, dynamic, bringing rhythm, warmth, and movement to the renewed space.
Durability, ease of maintenance, and the integration of elements capable of showcasing scientific content were key challenges. In addition, the entire project was guided by environmental objectives, including maximizing reuse of existing materials and prioritizing durable, recycled, and recyclable components.
